New KWUR Transmitter...

You might have noticed a little KWUR outage last week on the FM dial. We were still broadcasting on the internet but we took the transmitter down for repair. This morning I installed our new transmitter. We are now back on the FM dial and stronger then ever. You will notice the signal now travels further and more clearly then it has in about 2 years (maybe longer). Take the opportunity to tune into KWUR over the good ol' fashioned FM dial. You'll be surprised where you will be able to pick it up now...

Flaming Lips/Sonic Youth Tickets on Sale...

Just a quick note-
Tickets for the Flaming Lips/Sonic Youth (with openers the Magic Numbers) just went on sale.

These great bands will be coming here to St. Louis August 26th at the Pageant on the Loop.
Might want to get the tickets now while they still have them. It has already been determined that this will be the best show I ever see.

(As of 8:42pm the Pageant website is down. I got my tickets on ticketmaster)

KWUR Rolling Stone Review...

So Rolling Stone ("Corporate Magazines Still Suck") put out their college guide about "Schools that Rock" last year. It's divided by city and the entry for St. Louis has this little blurb about KWUR. No one at KWUR had any idea that we were included until I stumbled upon the book a couple of weeks ago. It's a pretty funny review check it out...

Ecstatic Peace! Wins Again

Thurston Moore's label Ecstatic Peace! keeps cranking out the good shitttt.

In February Moore signed a distribution deal with Universal Records for his small indie label. This deal has definitely helped turn this basement operation into something a little bigger.

This month alone there have been some excellent Ecstatic Peace! releases. Be Your Own Pet dropped on 06/06/06 and Awesome Color comes out today. Both of these young bands have been handpicked by Moore who produced and released their music.

Having musician/record collector/music expert Thurston Moore managing and picking bands to appear on Ecstatic Peace! certainly helps. With such musical expertise at its core almost any Ecstatic Peace! offering is worth a listen. 9 times out of 10 an Ecstatic Peace! release will be a keeper. They certainly have a good batting average.

While the deal with Universal originally seemed a little hypocritical for such a staunchly indie label it is all clear now. Not only can you can easily find Ecstatic albums now (earlier I had a bitch of a time finding Destroy All Monsters 1974-1976) but it seems every music rag I have read recently makes mention of Ecstatic Peace! The label has been around since 1981 -- I don't ever remember reading about it before...?

On top of that better distribution automatically means better Radio distribution. KWUR now gets all the Ecstatic Peace! offerings in the mail. Stay tuned to KWUR to hear all the goodness from this hot (not new) label.

Also, the new Sonic Youth album kicks some serious ass...

Arthur Magazine vs. Godsmack

Arthur Magazine (great zine!) editor Jay Babcock recently interviewed Godsmack (shitty band!) frontman Sully Erna about the use of their music in military recruiting commercials.

Not surprisingly Sully was caught off guard and couldn't provide much insight. He eventually hangs up the phone on Babcock.

This is a great read and is a perfect example of the sad state American mainstream music is in. How the hell do these dudes have a number 1 hit?
